Princess Rain and the Dragon 

Author Helena Yates and illustrator Wendy C. Crouch have teamed up to bring their story Princess Rain and the Dragon to life.  They have created an interactive puppet show presentation of their book that features a live actress in the role of Princess Rain and a life size Sir Sidney Dragon puppet performing from inside a puppet theater inspired by the book’s illustrations.  The 20 minute performance also includes three silly songs that get young audiences moving and involved. 

Helena and Wendy are both mothers whose children have become inspired by them. Two of the children are already accomplished artists.  

Princess Rain and the Dragonwhich explores the universal theme of finding the courage to face fears, has been performed for audiences of pre-school age to 2nd grade at:  

      1. Schools 

      2. City Island Market in honor of Earth Day, for the moms and children of the group Volusia Moms on the Go,  

      3.  Jakob’s Well in Daytona Beach, 

      4. Birthday parties 

      5. In October for the Girl Scouts of Central Florida at the Casements (the John D. Rockefeller house) in Ormond Beach.   

      6. The engaging reading has been a big hit among area children who have also enjoyed photo opportunities with the characters and the free coloring pages always included with the show. 

      7. Will be presenting at the BAMfest (Books Art and Music fest) at the Port Orange Chambers building on US 1 on  November 18. 

Helena Yates' first children's book Princess Rain and the Dragon (book one of thePrincess Rain and Sir Sidney Dragon Book Series) was published by Taylor and Seale, LLC in 2014.  In addition to being a writer, Helena is also a dancer, ballet teacher and musician/songwriter.  As a dancer, Helena served as a principal dancer, choreographer, and, briefly, on the Artistic Board of Directors of the Civic Ballet of Volusia County, Florida and performed professionally in various classical and modern ballets and performance art projects (Virtual Dance Monster at Stetson University and with the artist Perego).  She spent eight years teaching classical ballet, including six years as a teacher at European School of the Performing Arts (Ormond Beach, FL). She was also a dance coach to competitive gymnasts and figures skaters.  As a musician, Helena is a multi-instrumentalist who played professionally with the band One Sun.  In 2003, she formed the band Local Juju with her brother, former navy musician Jaime Tauler, and penned dozens of original songs.  In 2003 her song "Mirror Game" was awarded "Most Poetic and Profound Song of the Year" by the Songwriter's Showcase of America.  Helena currently lives in Port Orange, FL with her husband where she is busy practicing yoga, playing music, writing, and promoting her children's book with her artistic partner Wendy C. Crouch through a creative presentation that incorporates her musical and performance background.  

Wendy C. Crouch is a published children’s book illustrator and visual artist whose original paintings, prints, painted furniture, ceramic ware, and murals have sold all over the Eastern Seaboard as well as over the World Wide Web.  She began focusing on art in her youth winning many local art competitions. At age 16 she won the notable Scholastic Art Contest and had her work displayed at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.  In her late teens and early twenties, Wendy spent some time traveling across our beautiful country and abroad in Europe and North Africa exploring multi-cultural art before beginning her career as a professional artist.  Most recently her beautifully vivid and detailed drawings can be found in the pages of the charming story book PrincessRain and the Dragon, published by Taylor and Seale, LLC in 2014 (book one of the Princess Rain and Sir Sidney Dragon Book Series).  She alsohad the honor of painting a time capsule commemorating the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts (on display at Casements, John D. Rockefeller House in Ormond Beach, Florida).In addition, she hascreated the CD cover art for the albums Shine (a compilation of Central Florida Musicians) and E, by the Indie band Local Juju.  Her many talents also include designing whimsical Christmas Bulbs (including commemorative bulbs for the Civic Ballet of Volusia County).  When she is not painting, Wendy is spending time with her husbandraising and teaching theirfour daughters, ages 16 to 11.She also volunteers as a Girl Scout leader and is the coordinator of their Central Florida Art Gala.
